NEWARK, NJ –
Raquel Bolin (Plantation, FL/Xceed Preparatory Academy) and
Leila Koster (Duluth, GA/Rivers Academy) won at No. 1 doubles, but the Rider University women's tennis team fell at NJIT, 7-0, Friday evening. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-3, while the Highlanders are now 2-1.
Bolin and Koster got past Shivani Ingle and Laura Wipfli, 6-4, at No. 1 doubles. But the Highlanders countered with 6-2 victories at Nos. 2 and 3 to take the point.
NJIT then won all six singles flights in straight sets for the 7-0 victory. No Bronc took more than four games combined in the two sets, with
Avery Oppenheim (Marietta, GA/Walton/Georgia Connections) coming closest to a set victory, falling 6-4 in the first to Irene Cocero.
The Broncs return to action Feb. 18, when they face Colgate in Syracuse, NY. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
