NEWARK, NJ – The Rider University men's tennis team fell at NJIT, 7-0, on Friday. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 3-3, while the Highlanders won their first dual match of the year.
In doubles, the tandem of
Jake Grimes (Atlanta, GA/Johnson Ferry Christian Academy) and
Dylan Lachmanen (Brooklyn, NY/St. Francis Prep) forced a tie-breaker at No. 3, but fell, 7-6 (4). The Highlanders also won at Nos. 1 and 2 to take the first point of the match.
In singles, the Broncs were competitive, but fell in all six flights.
Nathan Slattery (Nenagh, Ireland) fell to Pablo Perez Ramos, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1, while
Pablo Salar Carrera (Barcelona, Spain IES Jaume Balmes) pushed Wil Jenkins at No. 4, but fell, 6-3, 7-5.
Giacomo Ghitti (Brescia, Italy/Marco Polo) also competed at No. 6, but fell, 6-3, 6-4, to Ashwin Kanetkar.
The Broncs return to action Feb. 10, when they travel to Villanova. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
