What You Need To Know
- Rider begins a two-game road weekend at Marist Friday night.
- Following a three-game losing skid, the Broncs have won their next three, including a dramatic 70-67 win at Iona, erasing an 18-point second-half deficit and snapping the Gaels' 21-game home winning streak. The Broncs followed with close home victories over Niagara (65-62) and Manhattan (67-65).
- Mervin James was named MAAC and Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association Player of the Week after averaging 17.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in the wins over Niagara and Manhattan. He shot 93.8 percent (15-16) from the free-throw line, making several pivotal free throws late to secure the close wins. James is the first Bronc to win the Met award since Teddy Okereafor in 2015-16.
- Dwight Murray, Jr. continues to be the Broncs' do-it-all point guard, averaging 16.6 ppg., shooting 36.8 percent from deep. Murray's 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game are best on the team and his 4.6 rebounds are third.
- Rider leads the all-time series with Marist, 41-26. The series dates back just over 42 years to Dec. 20, 1980. The Broncs are 17-4 against Marist under Kevin Baggett, including an 8-1 mark at McCann Arena.
- The Red Foxes are led by St. Michael's College graduate transfer center Patrick Gardner, who at 6-foot-11 averages a team-high 18.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. He's the only Red Fox averaging in double figures, with Noah Harris (9.8 ppg.), Javon Cooley (7.8 ppg., 4.7 rpg.), Kam Farris (6.9 ppg.) and Isaiah Brickner (6.6 ppg., 2.7 apg.) providing strong contributions.
- The Broncs were picked third in the MAAC Preseason Poll.
- 11th-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 170-161 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) have more wins at Rider.
