Field Hockey Shuts Out Georgetown

WASHINGTON, DC – The Rider University field hockey team got back on track in a big way Sunday afternoon, topping Georgetown 4-0. The Broncs even their record on the season with the victory, moving to 4-4, while the Hoyas fall to 3-7.

Late in the third quarter, the Broncs opened the scoring on a penalty corner. Kiera Guckavan (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) made the insert to Indy Zoontjens (Hilversum, Netherlands/Alberdingk Thijm College), who ripped a shot that beat the Georgetown goalie.

Less than a minute into the fourth quarter, Zoontjens ripped a shot that was deflected by Valeria Perales (Madrid, Spain/IES Mirasierra), who found the back of the cage to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Broncs put the game away with another corner. Perales was the one making the insert this time, and again it was Zoontjens converting with the goal. Perales tacked on another goal late in the quarter to produce the final score.
