BUFFALO, NY - Hannah Freeman netted her first goal of the year, but the Rider University women's soccer team fell on the road, 2-1, to open up conference play at Canisius College. Canisius' Jen Romero scored both goals for the Golden Griffins to give them a 2-1 win. With the loss, Rider drops its second game in the last three, moving the Broncs to 3-3-2 (0-1-0 MAAC), while Canisius was able to get win number three on the season moving to 3-2-3 (1-0-0 MAAC).
Romero scored her first goal within the first 11 minutes of competition. After Freeman tied the game up with a goal in the 76th minute, Romero responded with another goal nine minutes later to give the Golden Griffins what proved to be the game winner. Canisius dominated possession for the majority of the game and Ellie Sciancalepore faced 23 shots in net today.Â
The Broncs are looking to bounce back as they host Saint Peters on September 24th at 7 p.m. for the home conference opener.Â
