Makenzie Rodrigues (Seattle, WA/Forest Ridge) recorded her first-career hat trick with goals in the 19
th, 22
nd and 61
st minutes as the Rider University women's soccer team defeated Delaware State, 6-0, Sunday afternoon at Alumni Stadium. With the win, the Broncs improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Hornets slip to 0-4.
Rodrigues opened the scoring at the 18:18 mark, going low, right to beat DSU goalkeeper Nadia Bensarghin. Just over three minutes later, Rodrigues was awarded a penalty kick, which she converted for her second tally at the 22:30 mark. Again awarded a PK at the 60:21 mark, Rodrigues completed her natural hat trick.
The Broncs added to the advantage with
Logan Racine's (Ottawa, Ontario/St. Dominic (MO)) second goal of the season in the 73
rd minute, beating Bensarghin to the left, upper 90, and further tacked on with
Miranda Elmer's (Stockholm, Sweden/Taby Enskilda Gymnasium) first-career goal in the 82
nd minute, shooting low, left off
Hailey Russell's (Riverside, NJ/Riverside) assist. Also making her Rider debut,
Jasmine Sims (Frederick, MD/Tuscarora) made it 6-0 with her goal in the 85
th minute.
