2022-23 Rider Men's Basketball Non-Conference Schedule Announced

Broncs face TCNJ, Monmouth and Delaware at home

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University Men's Basketball Head Coach Kevin Baggett has announced his team's non-conference schedule for the 2022-23 season. The Broncs open the season at Providence on Nov. 8, before returning home to host local foe TCNJ on Nov. 12. A two-game trip to the MAAC/A-Sun Dublin Basketball Challenge in Ireland follows Nov. 18 and 19, before a pair of contests against Rutgers (Nov. 22, Piscataway, NJ) and Monmouth (Nov. 30, Alumni Gym) round out the November schedule.

Rider will play three non-conference games in December, with the first being against first-year Division I foe Stonehill in Easton, MA, on Dec. 7. A Dec. 19 home game against Delaware follows, before the Broncs round out the 2022 portion of the docket at Georgia on Dec. 30.  


The 2023 MAAC Basketball Championships return to Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

Last Meeting: Providence, 88-84 (Nov. 29, 2017; Providence, RI)
2021-22 Record: 27-6 (14-3 Big East)
Quickly: The Friars have won the last four meetings since the Broncs took the series opener against the Friars in 1945 at the original Boston Garden. All four PC wins have come in Providence, with the Broncs most recently pushing the Friars in an 88-84 decision in late November 2017.

TCNJ

Winning Streak: TCNJ, 5
Last Meeting: TCNJ, 75-69 (Feb. 12, 1990; Lawrenceville, NJ)
2021-22 Record: 10-14 (6-12 NJAC)
Quickly: Though Rider and TCNJ have routinely played each other in exhibition games in recent years, the two teams haven't played a game that counted in the standings since 1989-90, when the Lions won their fifth-straight game in the series.

MAAC/ASUN Dublin Basketball Challenge

Quickly: The Broncs and Bears will meet for the first time in the two programs' histories. The program that produced Scottie Pippin posted a 11-20 record with a 7-9 mark in A-Sun play last season.  

Stetson
Series History:
Stetson, 2-1
Last Meeting: Rider, 69-67 (Dec. 29, 1993; DeLand, FL)
2021-22 Record: 11-19 (5-11 A-Sun)
Quickly: The Broncs and Hatters will meet for the first time since 1993-94, when Rider earned its first-ever win over Stetson to cut the deficit in the all-time series to 2-1. The programs also met in December 1985 and January 1969.   

Rutgers
Tuesday, Nov. 22 * Piscataway, NJ

Winning Streak: Rutgers, 3
Last Meeting: Rutgers, 68-56 (Dec. 28, 2012; Piscataway, NJ)
2021-22 Record: 18-14 (12-8 Big 10)
Quickly: Rider and Rutgers resume a series that dates back to the 1947-48 season. The Scarlett Knights have won the last three meetings, while Rider took its lone win in the series on Dec. 21, 2007, when Rider Hall of Famer Ryan Thompson led the Broncs with 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting to go along with nine rebounds.

Monmouth

Winning Streak: Monmouth, 1
Last Meeting: Monmouth, 72-68 (Mar. 11, 2022; Atlantic City, NJ)
2021-22 Record: 21-13 (11-9 MAAC)
Quickly: Monmouth moves back to non-conference foe status with its migration to the Colonial Athletic Association this season. The two programs will meet for the 60th time this season following the Hawks' win in the MAAC Semifinals this past March.

Stonehill

2021-22 Record: 15-12 (10-9 NE-10)
Quickly: Rider travels to Stonehill in the Skyhawks' inaugural Division I season after elevating from the Division II Northeast-10 Conference. Stonehill takes the place of new MAAC member Mount St. Mary's in the Northeast Conference this year.

Delaware

Last Meeting: Delaware, 73-66 (Dec. 31, 2012; Newark, DE)
2021-22 Record: 22-13 (10-8 CAA)
Quickly: Rider and Delaware will meet for the first time in nearly a decade. The Blue Hens took the last meeting in the 2012-13 season. However, the Broncs have won seven of the last nine from their former East Coast Conference foe. The No. 5 seed in the CAA Tournament a year ago, Delaware marched past the No. 1, 2 and 4 seeds in the tournament to earn the league's berth in the NCAA Tournament, where it fell to Villanova in its opener.

Georgia

Quickly: The Broncs and Bulldogs will square off for the first time to round out Rider's non-conference slate. The Bulldogs are coming off a tough 6-26 season a year ago and hired former Florida Head Coach Mike White to try to get things turned around.
