Teagan Schein-Becker (Trappe, PA/Perkiomen Valley) and men's golf graduate student
Austin Devereux (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) have been selected 2021-22 Rider University Clair Bee Athletes of the Year. Schein-Becker earned All-MAAC in cross country, won the mile at ECAC Championships in the indoor season and went on to set new Rider records in the 800 and 1500 meters and advance to the quarterfinals at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships in the 1500 this Spring. Devereux won his second-straight McLeod Trophy at MAAC Individual Champion, leading the Broncs to their first-ever team title.
Schein-Becker's impressive year began with an eighth-place finish at MAAC Cross Country Championships to earn All-MAAC honors. In the winter, she won the mile and helped the DMR team to a third-place finish at ECAC Championships. She also finished second in the mile and DMR at MAAC Championships, while taking third with the 4x800 relay team. Her most-impressive performances came in the Spring, when she set new Rider records in the 800 and 1500 and earned MAAC Most Outstanding Track Performer at MAAC Championships. She won the 800, 1500 and 4x400 at MAAC Championships and advanced to the quarterfinals in the 1500 at NCAA East Preliminary Championships. During the regular season, she won the 800 at the Rider 5 Way and the 1500 at the Colonial Relays and Bison Outdoor Classic.
Devereux followed up his 2021 McLeod Trophy Championship by shooting three-under par (213) to win his second-consecutive MAAC Individual Championship. This time, he led the Broncs to their first-ever MAAC Championship as a team and a berth to the NCAA Norman Regional. Devereux led the Broncs with a 72.69 stroke average in 29 rounds and earned PING All-Northeast Region for the second-straight year. He had six Top 10 finishes in 11 tournaments played, including first-place finishes at the Fall Hawk Invite (145, +1) and MAAC Championships (213, -3). Devereux finished sixth at the Battle at Rum Pointe (144, E) en route to MAAC Golfer of the Week honors and finished 10th at the Bash at the Beach, shooting under par (71) in each of the three rounds (70-68-69, -6). For the season, he shot 70 or better seven times.
