Kinner, Koehler Earn MAC Championships

Koehler and Kinner become first-time MAC Champions

ATHENS, OHRichie Koehler and #25 Quinn Kinner have become the MAC Champions at 133 and 141 respectively as Rider Wrestling finished in 8th place of 13 teams after Day 2 of the MAC Championship Tournament, hosted in Ohio University's Convocation Center. Five Broncs reached the podium at the end of the tournament - champions Koehler and Kinner, Joe Casey in 5th place, David Szuba in 6th and Cole McComas in 8th.

Koehler faced Derek Spann from Buffalo in the title bout and topped him in a 4-1 decision to claim the title and the ticket to the NCAA tournament at 133. Kinner defeated Bloomsburg's Josh Mason by a 4-1 decision to claim the title at 141. Kinner earned his NCAA ticket yesterday after advancing to the finals due to the MAC's pre-allocations at his weight class.

McComas claimed his 8th place spot after losing by an 8-1 decision to Avery Bassett in the 7th place bout. Casey pushed forward to earn a major decision in the consolation bracket to advance to the 5th place bout where he would claim his spot on the podium due to medical forfeit. Szuba claimed his 6th place podium spot after his run to the semifinals and through the consolation bracket. Szuba would fall in the 5th place bout to Colton McKiernan by a 6-4 decision.

Quotes and Notes
"
Having two MAC Champs is great for Richie, Quinn and the program. They both prepared well this week and believed in themselves during the tournamnent. Richie had to wait a year to get a second chance at winning a MAC title and Quinn pulled it off in his first try, I'm so happy for both of them!" Rider Wrestling Head Coach John Hangey
