What You Need To Know
- Rider face Fairfield on the road Thursday in a game pivotal to MAAC Tournament seeding. The two teams enter the game tied at 7-11 in MAAC play.
- The Broncs have fallen in four of their last five. However, all five games have been close, with four of the five featuring two or fewer points of separation through regulation. The only outlier was another close contest - a 67-61 loss to MAAC Regular Season Champion Iona on Feb. 27.
- Rider had won six-straight meetings with Fairfield to even the series at 34-34 following the first game of a two-game set last season. The Stags took the second game and this year's first meeting, a 76-65 win at Alumni Gym, to retake a 36-34 lead.
- Taj Benning leads Fairfield at 11.1 points per game, including 24 points and 6-of-9 shooting from long range at Rider on Jan. 28. Supreme Cook has added 10.5 points and a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game. Jake Wojcik (9.8 ppg.) scored 20 points in the first meeting, but has since scored just 51 points over nine games (5.7 ppg.). Jesus Cruz (8.5 ppg.), Caleb Green (7.6 ppg., 2.8 apg.) and three-time MAAC Rookie of the Week TJ Long (6.8 ppg.) have also contributed.
-
Allen Powell has stepped up over the last 11 games, averaging 15.5 points.
-
Dimencio Vaughn became Rider's all-time steals leader with five thefts against Saint Peter's on Jan. 16. His total now stands at 218 steals. He also moved into ninth in scoring (1,594) on Feb. 27 vs. Iona, while his 786 rebounds rank seventh. Already the only player in the top 15 in points, rebounds, blocks and steals, his 81st block on Feb. 13 put him in the top 10 in all four categories.
- 10th-year Head Coach
Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 158-150 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) have more wins at Rider.
