Women’s Tennis Falls 4-3 to St. Francis Brooklyn

Broncs edged in season home opener

Box Score Lawrenceville, NJ – Capucine Thuilot, Ally Garafoli and Angelica Garcia earned singles wins, but the Rider University women's tennis team was edged in the Spring home opener by St. Francis College Brooklyn, 4-3, Friday. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-3, while the Terriers improve to 1-6.

Thuilot and Avery Oppenheim paired to take a win at No. 3 doubles. But the Terriers took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2.

Thuilot, Garofoli and Garcia earned singles wins at No's. 2, 4 and 5. But St. Francis won the remaining three singles flights to clinch the match.

"Overall, I was pleased with the energy before the match, but once we started I think we laid off the gas. We played too defensive in doubles. Sometimes they want to win so badly that I think they look forward to the final result. We just need to stay in the moment and focus on the things we can control." – Rider Head Coach Tom Battaglia.

The Broncs return to action Sunday, March 20th when they travel to Bloomsburg, PA to face off against the Huskies. Matches are set to begin at 1 p.m.
