PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA – The Rider University baseball team suffered an 11-2 loss to Lafayette Tuesday afternoon. The Broncs fall to 5-2 on the season with the setback, while the Leopards improve to 1-7.
Lafayette opened the scoring with two in the first on a two-run homer, then added two in the second.
In the top of the fourth,
John Volpe (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) led off the inning with a single up the middle.
Scott Shaw (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) reached on a fielders choice, then two batters later,
Brian Skettini (Midland Park, NJ/Ridgewood) singled back up the middle and Shaw came around to score on an error by the center fielder.
After another Leopard home run in the bottom of the fourth put Lafayette ahead 7-1, the Leopards added another in the bottom of the fifth.
Rider broke through again in the sixth. Shaw hit a one-out triple off the wall in right. With two-outs, Skettini hit a chopper down the third base line for an infield hit to score the run.
Lafayette tacked on three more in the eighth, including a two-run homer.
