Women's Basketball Falls to Saint Peter's

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rider University women's basketball team dropped a MAAC game Saturday afternoon at Saint Peter's, 69-56. The loss sends the Broncs to 6-16 on the season, and 4-9 in league play, while the Peacocks improved to 10-12 on the year, and 7-6 in the MAAC.

The Broncs started the game strong, taking a 6-2 lead on buckets by Raphaela Toussaint (Kingston, Ontario/), Lenaejha Evans (Conway, SC/Conway), and Jessika Schiffer (Iserlohn, Germany/Deutschhaus Gymnasium Würzburg [Buffalo]). The Peacocks responded with a 9-0 run, capped by four-straight from the MAAC's fifth-leading scorer, Kassandra Brown. Saint Peter's held a 14-12 advantage after the first.

Rider came out firing to begin the second. Schiffer hit a pair of threes as part of a 12-3 run that put Rider back on top. The conference's third-leading scorer, Kendrea Williams responded for the Peacocks with an individual 9-0 run, hitting three from long range and the teams went back to the locker room tied, 26-26.

Neither side could find their footing coming out of the break. Trailing 40-36, Saint Peter's hit back to back threes late in the third to go up 42-40 entering the final ten minutes.

The rally extended into the start of the fourth, where the Peacocks rattled off an additional five-straight points and the Broncs never recovered. Every Rider basket was answered by Saint Peter's and Rider would never get within five for the remainder of the game.

Quotes & Notes
"We know we're capable of doing what we need to do to win. I thought we did some really good things today, and some things that weren't in the game plan. The only thing we can do is continue to do what we do and get better every day."

"We need to believe in what we're doing. I'm a big believer in repetition, so we are going to be in practice doing the things that will bring us success. There is a lot of basketball left to play."

"There's a piece of the puzzle that we're missing, and we need to put that piece in place and get to where we need to be." – Head Coach Lynn Milligan
