What You Need To Know
- Rider has won four of its last five, with the lone setback coming on a tip-in with 3.6 seconds remaining vs. Delaware. The Broncs have defeated Monmouth, Mount St. Mary's, Stonehill and, most recently, Marist, in the stretch.
- Wednesday's game will be a homecoming of sorts for three Broncs -
Dwight Murray, Jr.,
Mervin James and
Kami Young - who each played their high school ball at Pebblebrook High School in suburban Atlanta.
- Murray has scored at least 17 points in all 10 games this season, including 30 against Central Arkansas, matching his career high. For the season, he's averaging 19.3 ppg., shooting 45.1 percent from deep. Murray's 2.9 assists and 1.3 steals per game are best on the team, while his 5.1 rebounds are second.
- Already a 1,000-point scorer for his collegiate career, spanning two years at Incarnate Word and the last three at Rider, Murray stands 25 shy of 1,000 at RU.
-
Mervin James has contributed a pair of double-doubles in his last three games. He went for 23 points and 13 rebounds in a Dec. 7 win at Stonehill, before chipping in with 13 points and 11 rebounds in a Dec. 22 win over Marist.
- Rider and Georgia are meeting for the first time in the two programs' histories. The Bulldogs are led by first-year Head Coach Mike White, who left fellow SEC foe Florida to guide Georgia following last season. Following a six-win 2021-22 campaign, the Bulldogs have posted a 9-3 record in 2022-23. Kario Oquendo (14.0 ppg.) and Terry Roberts (13.8 ppg.) lead the Bulldogs' scoring attack, with Roberts leading the team at 4.6 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
- Rider returned four starters and 74 percent of its scoring from a year ago, including Preseason All-MAAC First Team selection
Dwight Murray, Jr. and All-MAAC Third Team selections
Mervin James and
Allen Powell.
- The Broncs were picked third in the MAAC Preseason Poll.
- 11th-year Head Coach
Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 166-157 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) have more wins at Rider.
