POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Rider University volleyball team struggled Saturday night, falling in four set to Marist. The Broncs fall to 7-16 overall and 5-8 in league play. The Red Foxes improve to 14-10 on the year and 10-4 in MAAC play.
Marist jumped out to an early lead in the first, leading 10-3. The Broncs never strung together more than two-straight points in the set, falling 25-14.
The Broncs bounced back in the second, taking a quick 4-1 lead. Leading 14-9, Rider scored four-straight on the serve of
Tori Schrader (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin). The Red Foxes fought back, making the set 20-15, but the Broncs got another 3-0 run to stave off the comeback and eventually take the set 25-19.
The third set was competitive throughout, but leading 16-15, Marist pulled away with a 4-0 rally and the Broncs never recovered. The Red foxes won the set 25-14.
The momentum carried into the fourth set. Down 5-4, Marist pulled away with a 10-1 run that made the score 14-6. Marist went on to take the set 25-15 and secure the match.
