Women's Tennis Battles to 4-3 Win at Wagner

Broncs win 4-of-6 singles matches, Battaglia earns win #100

STATEN ISLAND, NY – Four Broncs won singles matches as the Rider University women's tennis team defeated Wagner, 4-3, Friday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs even their record at 1-1, while the Seahawks are now 0-2. Combined with a men's win Friday, Rider Head Coach Tom Battaglia won his 100th career match.

"They've been working so hard for this moment," said Battaglia. "We've been through a lot of up's and down's lately, so it's nice to get this win. They came up big when it was looking bleak.
Our women played with a lot of heart and came up big in critical moments. That's what we train for and I'm excited to share this moment with them."

After Wagner swept the doubles point, the Broncs got wins from Leila Koster (Duluth, GA/Rivers Academy), Daniella Naves Anzaldo (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies), Jett Coetzee (Miami, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) and Avery Oppenheim (Marietta, GA/George Walton/Georgia Connections) at Nos. 2, 3, 5 and 6, respectively, to earn the match victory.

Koster defeated Gabrielle Perraudin, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 2, while Naves Anzaldo also won in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, over Mia Groetsch at No. 3. Coetzee battled to a 6-4, 7-6 (5), 10-7, victory over Paula Ysabelle Uy at No. 5 and Oppenheim breezed past Jasmine Lin, 6-3, 6-0, for the match win.
