Barkey Scores Twice, Women's Soccer Defeats Mount St. Mary's

Broncs fuel MAAC Championship hopes with road victory

EMMITSBURG, MD – Graduate student midfielder Anna Barkey (Parker, CO/Legend [UTRGV]) scored her first two goals as a Bronc on her birthday as the Rider University women's soccer earned a 2-1 road victory at Mount St. Mary's Wednesday night. With the win, the Broncs improve to 6-7-2 (3-5-0 MAAC), pulling into a tie with the Mountaineers (3-5-7, 2-4-3 MAAC) in a crowded field of six teams battling for the final three MAAC Championship berths with two league dates left to play.

Barkey wasted little time getting the scoring started with a goal in the seventh minute off a Karagh Tait (Swadlincote, Derbyshire, England/Derbyshire) assist. The score remained 1-0 Rider at the half, but the Mountaineers equalized on a Luisangely Navas goal into the right upper 90 from 20 yards out in the 50th minute. But Barkey struck for her second goal of the night three and a half minutes later for the game winner. Nikki Arrington (Middleton, MA/Masconomet Regional) crossed from the right into the box, where a Mount defender stopped the ball, but rolled overtop of it, leaving it on the doorstep for Barkey to turn and score.

Quotes and Notes
"Really proud of how the team played today. We performed at a high level in a must win situation. It was great to see Anna score two goals on her birthday." – Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome

- Rider now leads the all-time series with Mount St. Mary's, 4-1-1, including wins in each of the last four meetings. The last meeting came in 2015. The Broncs and Mountaineers were meeting as conference foes for the first time tonight.
- With today's results around the MAAC, the Broncs sit in a three-way tie for the sixth place at nine points, with the top six teams in the standings advancing to the MAAC Championships. As it currently stands, the Broncs would hold the head-to-head tiebreakers against Mount St. Mary's and Saint Peter's. However, the Broncs' next opponent, Marist, awaits a point back in the standings with eight.
- Ellie Sciancalepore (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) made two saves in the win.
- Sciancalepore, Lindsey Maslow (Hanover, MA/Hanover), Genevieve Ryan (Auckland, New Zealand/Mount Albert Grammar School), Tait, Barkey, Leonor Alves (Aveiro, Portugal/Jose Estevao) and Olivia Smith (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) each played all 90 minutes.
