Women's Soccer Clinches MAAC Championship Berth With 1-0 Win at Marist

Maslow scores game-winner in 64', Broncs could clinch quarterfinal home game with win Wednesday

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – Senior Lindsey Maslow (Hanover, MA/Hanover) scored the game-winning goal in the 64th minute as the Rider University women's soccer team clinched a MAAC Championship berth with a 1-0 win at Marist Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs (7-7-2, 4-5-0 MAAC), who've clinched a MAAC Championship berth for the 10th-straight season, position themselves to earn the No. 4 seed and a quarterfinal home game with a win Wednesday over Siena.

Following a scoreless first half that saw Ellie Sciancalepore (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) make three saves, Maslow got on the board in the 64th minute taking an Ailis Martin (Mahopac, NY/Mahopac) pass into the box, fighting off a defender on her left hip, before shooting with her right foot past Marist goalkeeper Natalie Kelchner for the game-winning goal.

It was a close game and we created some quality opportunities, but could only convert on one. - The Broncs have now won the last three meetings with Marist after falling in the prior five. Marist's lead in the all-time series has been trimmed to 16-10-1
- With today's results around the MAAC, the Broncs sit alone in fifth place. Rider's head-to-head wins over seventh-placed Saint Peter's and Mount St. Mary's gives the Broncs the tiebreakers needed to clinch.
- A Rider (12 points) win Wednesday against Siena would jump the Broncs over current fourth-place team Canisius (14 points), which has already completed its regular season.   
- Sciancalepore made five saves in her sixth shutout of the year and the 10th of her Rider career.   
- Sciancalepore, Genevieve Ryan (Auckland, New Zealand/Mount Albert Grammar School), Camryn Dees (Pickerington, OH/Pickerington HS North), Leonor Alves (Aveiro, Portugal/Jose Estevao) and Olivia Smith (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) each played all 90 minutes.

Broncs By The Numbers
- Maslow's goal was her team-leading fifth of the season and the sixth of her Rider career. She now has 20 career points.
- Martin's assist was her first of the year and the third of her career.
- Marist outshot the Broncs, 21-15, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.
- Marist took eight corner kicks to Rider's two.
