What You Need To Know
- The Broncs were selected second by the league's coaches in the MAAC Preseason Poll. Rider finished second behind Fairfield during the regular season and reached the MAAC Championship match before falling to the Stags.
-The Broncs won a program-record 14 MAAC matches to earn a program-best two seed in last year's tournament. The Broncs had previously finished third in 2004, 2018, and 2019.
- Rider enters Wednesday after falling to Quinnipiac and Fairfield over the weekend. The Broncs last victory came against Manhattan last Wednesday.
- Kianny Santiago (San Juan, PR/Hudson Catholic (NJ)) had a career-high 15 kills against Manhattan last Wednesday.
- Morgan Romano (Oviedo, FL/Hagerty) was named to First-Team All-MAAC honors by the league last season. Romano was also named to the preseason All-MAAC team.
- With another All-Conference honor, Romano would become the first player in program history to earn four All-MAAC honors during her career.
- Romano was named MAAC Player of the Week on October 4 after averaging 22.5 kills on .389 hitting in matches against Siena and Marist.
- Romano now has 1,443 career kills, good for third in program history after passing Hailey Riede '19 in Rider's match at George Washington. Next on the list is Jaclyn Levi '05, who ended her career with 1,546.
- In the Broncs' first tournament of the season, the dōTERRA Classic, freshman Carley McAleavey (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) earned All-Tournament honors after racking up 15 kills on .250 hitting over the three matches.
- At the Steel Classic Tournament, Pamela Loh (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) and Brynn Johnson (River Falls, WI/River Falls) earned All-Tournament Team honors. Johnson had 16 kills on .200 hitting across the three matches to go along with five blocks. Loh had 32 digs in the three matches, led by a 16 dig effort in Rider's win over Cleveland State.
- Loh now has 888 career digs. She is attempting to become just the 16th Bronc in program history to reach 1,000 for her career.
- In the Dig for the District Tournament, Nicole Wilkinson (New Castle, IN/New Castle) and Julia Slivka (Adamstown, MD/Tuscarora). Wilkinson exploded with 11 kills and five blocks against George Washington, both career-highs. She finished the weekend with 17 kills on .297 hitting. Slivka had 69 assists and 24 digs in the three matches during the tournament. In Rider's win over Georgetown, Slivka had her third double-double of the season with 31 assists and 13 digs, while also adding five aces.
- Iona leads the all-time series 29-17 including a three-set win earlier this season. The Broncs were down both setters in that match, turning to Morgan Romano, who set a then career-high with 26 assists.
- The Gaels are 8-2 in MAAC play so far this year, with their only losses coming against Marist and Fairfield.
- Jen Soto led the Gaels with 10 kills in the first meeting. Hope Matschner had 20 digs in that match. Matschner leads the NCAA in total digs (460) and digs per set (6.48).
