Field Hockey Extends Winning Streak to Five

SMITHFIELD, RI – The Rider University field hockey team fell behind early, but fought back to earn a 4-1 victory over Bryant Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Broncs to 9-5, while The Bulldogs fall to 4-12.

Rider fell behind midway through the first quarter when Ashley Barron scored her sixth of the season for the Bulldogs.

Midway through the second, the Broncs got on the board when Valeria Perales (Madrid, Spain/IES Mirasierra) found Semra Said (Mannheim, Germany/Feudenheim Gymnasium Mannheim), who converted to tie the score.

Less than 30 seconds later, the Broncs earned a penalty corner. Perales made the insert on the corner to Indy Zoontjens (Hilversum, Netherlands/Alberdingk Thijm College), who blasted a shot into the back of the cage to put Rider in front, 2-1.

Early in the third quarter, Said found the back of the net for the second time in the game to extend the lead to 3-1. Late in the fourth, Perales tacked on an insurance goal to produce the final score.
