BALTIMORE, MD – A pair of Rider University women's tennis duos advanced to the quarterfinals of the Greyhounds Women's Tennis Classic Friday. Playing in compass draws, the duos of
Raquel Bolin (Plantation, FL/Xceed Preparatory Academy)/
Sofia Gutierrez (Miami, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) and
Leila Koster (Duluth, GA/Rivers Academy)/
Daniela Naves Anzaldo (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) both won their draws and advance to play in tomorrow's quarterfinals.
Bolin and Gutierrez scored a 2-1 win over Loyola's Lauren Williamson and Taylor Kunci. The Rider tandem won in doubles, 6-4, before Gutierrez earned a 3-6, 7-6 (1), 10-8, victory to clinch the match. They move on to face another Loyola duo, Olivia Tracy and Christine Richiez, in tomorrow's quarterfinals.
Koster and Naves Anzaldo defeated George Mason's Jackie Nannery and Emily Wirt, 2-1. Rider cruised to a 6-1 win in doubles, before Naves Anzaldo defeated Wirt, 6-3, 6-3, to punch the Broncs' ticket to the quarters.
Two other tandems from Rider also competed, but accounted for just one match win, with
Avery Oppenheim (Marietta, GA/George Walton/Georgia Connections) defeating George Mason's Jenin Alasadi, 6-4, 1-6, 10-8, in singles.
The Broncs return to Greyhounds Women's Tennis Classic action tomorrow morning at 9 a.m.
