The Rider Department of Athletics proudly celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day annually. NGWSD began in 1987, evolving into an effort to bring attention to the achievements of female athletes, the positive influence of sports participation, and the challenges and issues facing females in sports.
This year's celebration of National Girls and Women in Sport Day will take place on Saturday, February 26, 2022.Â
The women's basketball team will host Saint Peter's at 2 p.m. as part of the day's celebration. Prior to the game, however, there will be a free all-sports clinic with Rider's female student-athletes and coaches as well as the cheer and dance teams for girls ages 5-17 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the Student Recreation Center (adjacent to Alumni Gym) on campus.
"We get tremendous support for all of our women's sports programs from Rider faculty, staff, and alumni as well as our local community members so this all-sports clinic with our female student-athletes is our way to give back. In past years, we've gotten calls from parents telling us how much a young girl enjoyed learning about a new sport during the clinic," said Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Operations/SWA,Â
Karin Torchia. "The celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day also allows us to honor our women's teams and their accomplishments both athletically and academically."Â
Check-in and registration for the all-sports clinic will begin at 11:30 a.m. on February 26 and the actual clinic activities will begin at 12:00 p.m. Rider University currently has an indoor mask mandate regardless of vaccination status so all clinic participants and spectators will be required to wear a mask at all times. All student-athletes, coaches and staff involved in the clinic will also be masked.Â
Pre-registration for the clinic is preferred, but not required, and girls can also just show up on the day of the clinic to participate.Â

Â

The women's basketball team will be on-hand for an autograph session following the conclusion of their game at 2 p.m.
