Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Tops NJIT on Fisher's Third of the Season

Hannah Freeman also scored in the victory.

Lawrenceville, NJ – Hannah Freeman (Lowville, NY/Lowville) scored her first goal of the season, and Chloe Fisher (Warrington, England/Cronton Sixth Form College) scored once again to help Rider top NJIT, 2-1, Wednesday evening at Ben Cohen Field. With the win, the Broncs improve to 2-2-1, while the Highlanders fall to 2-5.

NJIT opened the scoring in the 59th minute when Ciara Adams scored off a Caroline Caputo pass. Rider wouldn't let the Highlanders retain the lead for long. Freeman corralled a loose ball and sent it rocketing into the net unassisted in the 64th minute to tie the game. The Broncs' momentum would carry on as Fisher scored her third goal for the season in the 79th minute when Lindsey Maslow (Hanover, MA/Hanover) capitalized on an NJIT turnover, deflecting a pass right onto Fisher's right foot. Rider would continue to halt the Highlander offense for the remaining 21 minutes of regulation play, including a sliding 50-50 ball and a diving save by Ellie Sciancalepore (Randolph, NJ/Randolph).

Quotes and Notes
"We're one step further to where we want to be. [NJIT] played Wagner, and Wagner dominated us physically. After that game we said, 'this is what we need to do.' When we perceive teams as being more athletic, more physical, and that we can compete with them, it shows that we're moving forward."

"One of the things that the team came up with at the start of the year was to be better today than yesterday."
– Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome

"Overall, I think we really killed it. There was a lot of passion behind the game. To come here and to beat a strong team, you could see it in the reaction when the whistle blew at the end. It was big for us, and this confidence will carry us."

- Rider Women's Soccer Goalie Ellie Sciancalepore

"It was a big powerful win that the team needed. Tough conditions, really competitive. With a few bodies down, it was about who was going to fight harder."

"We've changed our formation to be versatile up top. The connection with the wing players is vital going forward. The goal wasn't planned but you practice breakaways so much it becomes normal."

- Rider Women's Soccer Forward Chloe Fisher

- Rider retains the lead in the all-time series 7-5-0. The win snapped a three-game NJIT winning streak.
- Sciancalepore made five saves for the Broncs against NJIT.
- Tonight's game saw eight Broncs see all 90 minutes of play.

Broncs By The Numbers

- Fischer's goal gives her a team-leading ten points on the year.
- The Highlanders took ten shots to the Broncs' eight, but both Rider and NJIT placed six shots on goal.
