NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Rider University men's and women's track and field teams were both named USTFCCCA All-Academic Teams by the organization on Thursday. In addition to the team accomplishments,
Zach Manorowitz of the men's team and
Kristin Siegle of the women's team were selected as USTFCCCA All-Academic Athletes.
"We take a lot of pride in celebrating our academic achievements in our program," said head cross country and track and field coach
Bob Hamer. "Our student-athletes work really hard for excellence in the classroom and in their sport. I am really proud of the work they put in and they are very deserving of this distinction."
To be selected as an All-Academic Team, the team must produce a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. The men's team has a cumulative team GPA of 3.29 and the women's team finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.40.
For individuals, student-athletes are required to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and participate in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Manorowitz, a freshman Accounting major, finished 33
rd in the long jump at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships with a leap of 7.13 meters. Siegle, a graduate student studying homeland security, placed 31
st in the 1,500-meters at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships with a program-record time of 4:22.45.
"Kristin and Zach had outstanding seasons this year," said Hamer. "They received many accolades and had the opportunity to compete at the NCAA First Round. They were also great in the classroom and need to be commended for their accomplishments."
