LOUDONVILLE, NY –
Pete Soporowski (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) pitched a complete-game shutout in Game 1 and
Jordan Erbe (Toms River, NJ/Toms River South) had three of the Broncs' four hits on the day as the Rider University baseball team split a road doubleheader at Siena Saturday. With the split, the Broncs move to 18-14, while the Saints are now 12-20.
The Broncs scored the lone run of Game 1 in the top of the sixth. Erbe opened the frame with a single and moved to second on a
John Volpe (Sea Girt, NJ/Wall) sacrifice bunt. He took third on a wild pitch and later broke for home before Saints pitcher Connor Bovair began his delivery. Bovair attempted to cut Erbe down at the plate, but was called for a balk, allowing Erbe to score the winning run. Soporowski limited Siena to four hits and a walk, while striking out seven in his complete-game shutout to outduel Bovair.
The Saints struck first in Game 2, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. A walk, a bunt single and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with one out, before the Saints got a two-run single. Siena plated another run in the sixth with a one-out single, a wild pitch and another base hit to push its lead to 3-0. The support was more than enough for starting pitcher Mike McCully, who went 6.2 scoreless innings and the Saints got 2.1 scoreless innings of relief from Arlo Marynczak.
