WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ – The Rider University men's tennis team was swept by hOURglass Rival Monmouth, 7-0, on the road Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-7 (1-2 MAAC), while the Hawks are now 9-2 (2-0 MAAC).
The Hawks took all three doubles flights. The closest Rider could come to a win was
Paul Lenz (Ratingen, German/Suitbertus Gymnasium) and
Marcus Fredrickson's 6-2 defeat to Will Cooke Wharton and Charles Gortzounian at No. 3.
Pablo Salar Carrera (Barcelona, Spain/IES Jaume Balmes) put up the best fight at singles, but fell to Cooke Wharton, 6-4, 7-6, at the top flight. Lenz also fell to Max Benaim, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2. No other Bronc took more than one game in singles.
The Broncs' next-scheduled match had been Sunday at Marist. However, the Red Foxes today announced that their campus-wide pause will continue through the weekend. Rider will now return to action next Wednesday, April 14, when they welcome La Salle to Lawrenceville for a 3 p.m. first serve.
