LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Paul Lenz (Ratingen, Germany/Suitbertus Gymnasium) won at both singles and doubles, but the Rider University men's tennis team fell at Loyola (Md.), 4-3, Monday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-6 on the season, while the Greyhounds are now 1-5.
Lenz paired with
Marcus Fredrickson to defeat Matt Cardano and Oliver Davey, 7-6 (7-5), at No. 2 doubles. The Broncs took the doubles point as
Javier Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio Nuestra Senora de la Merced) and
Peter Komosinski (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Laurel Springs) also won at No. 3, defeating Nick Haggar and Tyler Mast, 6-2.
Lenz then defeated Charlie Shanker, 6-1, 7-6 (6-4) at No. 2 singles.
Pablo Salar Carrera (Barcelona, Spain/IES Jaume Balmes) also earned a 6-3, 7-5, win at top singles over Edik Pribitkin. But the Greyhounds took the final four flights to win the match. Fredrickson pushed his match to a third set, but fell to Tyler Mast, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, at No. 6.
The Broncs return to action Wednesday, when they travel to Monmouth for a 3:30 first serve.
