LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Five different Rider University women's tennis players earned at least one win in either singles or doubles, but the Broncs fell to Niagara, 5-2, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-2 (0-2 MAAC), while the Purple Eagles are now 2-3 (1-2 MAAC).
The Broncs took the doubles point as
Cyd Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio La Merced) and
Leila Koster defeated Elena Mayet and Megan Gamble, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles and
Sarah Cheverie (Calgary, Alberta, Canada/National Sport School [Montana State]) and
Angelica Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) got past Olga Donchu and Jaida Borg, 6-1, at No. 3.
However, Niagara would win five of six singles flights to take the match.
Ally Garofoli (Springboro, OH/Springboro) was the Broncs' lone singles winner, taking a 6-3, 6-0, win over Kirah Regales at No. 6.
The Broncs return to action Monday, when they travel to Baltimore to take on Loyola (Md.) at 2 p.m.
