LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University men's soccer team played Fairfield to a scoreless draw Saturday night on Ben Cohen Field. With the tie, the Broncs move to 2-0-1 on the season, while the Stags are now 2-2-1.
For the game, Rider outshot Fairfield, 10-4, including a 3-2 edge in shots on goal. In the two overtime periods, Rider managed a pair of shots, while not allowing a Fairfield attempt. The Broncs took 11 corner kicks to Fairfield's three.
Pablo Gatinois (Madrid, Spain/Lycee Francais de Madrid [Oregon State]) posted his third-straight clean sheet to begin the year, his 14
th as a Bronc and the 15
th of his collegiate career.
Prior to the game, Rider honored its one senior not planning to return next season, back-up goalkeeper
Garret Potter (Lafayette, NJ/High Point). Potter most memorably filled in admirably in the 2018 NCAA Championship First Round at eventual National Runner-Up Akron after Gatinois was knocked out due to injury in the first half.
The Broncs' regularly-scheduled regular-season finale at Marist has been cancelled due to the Red Foxes' campus-wide pause due to COVID-19. The Broncs await clarity on MAAC Championship seeding procedures before a potential Sunday, April 11 quarterfinal game. What is clear is that eight teams will comprise the tournament field, with the higher-seeded team in each match playing host to the lower-seeded team.
