RIVERDALE, NY - Junior starting pitcher
Frank Doelling (Riverside, NJ/Riverside) threw seven innings of one-run ball while striking out six to help the Rider University baseball team sweep Day 2 at Manhattan on Saturday afternoon. With the wins, the Broncs improve to 9-3 (9-3 MAAC) while the Jaspers fall to 1-7 (1-7 MAAC).
Doelling's only run allowed came from a Will Trochiano solo home run in the bottom of the third inning off of a 2-1 count to give the Jaspers a 1-0 lead. The Broncs immediately answered in the top of the fourth inning, plating four thanks to a two-RBI single from third baseman
Jack Winsett (Cherry Hill, NJ/Eastern Regional) and a Manhattan throwing error scoring first baseman
Luke Lesch (Gloucester Township, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) and Winsett. In the top of the fifth inning, the Broncs added two insurance runs from catcher
Socrates Bardatsos's (Ridgefield, NJ/St. Joseph's Regional) RBI single and second baseman
David Bermudez (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) scoring from a Jasper wild pitch.
In Game 2, designated hitter
Tyler Stockwell (La Plata, MD/La Plata) singled to score centerfielder
Sean McGeehan (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) in the top of the first inning before Manhattan answered with three runs of their own in the first two innings. Rightfielder
Lou Priolo's (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern) sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning would start a streak of eight unanswered runs for the Broncs. Stockwell doubled to give the Broncs the lead three at-bats later that would not be reliquished. In the top of the fourth inning, Lesch and McGeehan would each hit two-run home runs later in the game.
Senior
