WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ –
Sean McGeehan (Hamilton, NJ/Nottingham) and
Scott Shaw (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill High School West) each hit solo home runs as the Rider University baseball team split with hOURglass Rival Monmouth, winning Game 1, 1-0, before falling in Game 2, 11-1 in eight innings. With the split, the Broncs move to 11-9, while the Hawks are now 13-3.
In Game 1, the Broncs got a solo home run down the left-field line from McGeehan and it was all the support Rider would need.
Kenny Quijano (Teaneck, NJ/St. Mary's) limited Monmouth to two hits and a walk in six shutout innings, while
Cal Stalzer (West Des Moines, IA/Valley) erased a leadoff single with a game-ending double-play ball for the save to put Game 1 in the win column for Rider.
Monmouth posted three runs in the second inning of Game 2 on a run-scoring groundout and a two-run home run to take a 3-0 lead. The Hawks blew the game open with a seven-run fifth. Shaw hit a solo home run in the sixth to make it 10-1, before Monmouth abbreviated the game with a run in the eighth.

- Quijano picked up his first win of the year, limiting Monmouth to two hits and a walk in 6.0 shutout innings, striking out nine.
- Stalzer picked up his second save of the year with a scoreless seventh inning in Game 2. He allowed one hit.

Joe Papeo (Matawan, NJ/Old Bridge) started Game 2 and took the loss. He allowed five runs, three earned, on eight hits without walking a batter in 4.0 innings pitched.
- Due to a positive COVID-19 test within Iona's program, this weekend's regularly-scheduled doubleheader has been postponed. Rider is now slated to return to action in a four-game set, April 24 and 25 at Canisius.
