What You Need To Know
- Rider opens MAAC Championship play in the opening round against sixth-seeded Canisius on Monday night at 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
- Tickets are not being sold to 2021 MAAC Basketball Championships. Each school has been allowed to place a limited number of close family and friends on a pass list to attend the games.
- Rider leads the all-time series with Canisius, 37-15. However, the recent series has been much closer, with Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams posting an 8-8 record against the Griffs over the last nine seasons.
- Canisius is the lone team the Broncs did not face this regular season. Rider is 3-1 all-time in MAAC Championships against Canisius, with the last meeting coming in 2010-11. Rider was a top three seed in each of the four meetings.
- The Griffs are led by Malek Green, who's averaged 13.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 53.2 percent from the floor and 37.9 percent from long range. Majesty Brandon also averages in double figures at 12.4 ppg., while Jordan Henderson (8.5 ppg.), Jacco Fritz (8.4 ppg., 6.6 rpg.) and Ahamadou Fofana (8.3 ppg., 2.7 apg.) have also made strong contributions.
- Rider is 14-22 all-time at MAAC Championships. The Broncs are 6-2 in MAAC Opening Round games, but have never been the No. 11 seed.
- Dwight Murray, Jr. has been an all-around bright spot this season, averaging 15.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game. He posted three double-doubles, including a 23-point, 11-rebound performance last time out, March 5 against Monmouth.
- Allen Powell has come alive of late, scoring in double figures in six of his last nine games, including a pair of 20-plus-point performances.
- Ninth-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 146-132 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) have more wins at Rider than Baggett.
- 107.7 The Bronc will broadcast the games live, with Tom Trimarco and Demara Barnes on the call.
