Women's Tennis Opens 2021 Season With 6-1 Loss at Quinnipiac

Leila Koster wins Rider singles debut at No. 5

HAMDEN, CT – Freshman Leila Koster won her No. 5 singles match and seniors Cyd Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio La Merced) and Amanda Binder (Princeton, NJ/West Windsor Plainsboro HS North) won at No. 1 doubles, but the Rider University women's tennis team fell at perennially-powerful Quinnipiac, 6-1, Saturday afternoon. With season-opening loss, the Broncs are now 0-1 (0-1 MAAC), while the Bobcats moved to 2-3 (2-0 MAAC).

Melendez and Binder defeated Claire Koscielski and Kamilla Nella, 7-6, at No. 1 doubles. However, the Bobcats took all but one game in the other two doubles flights to take the point.

In singles, Koster defeated Payton Bradley, 3-6, 6-3, 11-9, at No. 5. However, no other Bronc took more than five games in five straight-sets losses.

The Broncs return to action Monday, when they play host to Hofstra. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
