HAMDEN, CT – The Rider University men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at conference foe Quinnipiac Saturday evening. Rider falls to 0-4 (0-1 MAAC) with the loss, while Quinnipiac moves to 3-1 (2-0 MAAC).
The Broncs were highly competitive in doubles, with
Pablo Salar Carrera (Barcelona, Spain/IES Jaume Balmes) and Jaime De Jaraiz Garcia pushing the Bobcats' No. 1 duo of Aleksa Martinovic and Austin Yannone before falling, 7-6.
Javier Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio Nuestra Senora de la Merced) and
Marcus Fredrickson also fell in a close match at No. 2, 6-4, while
Peter Komosinski (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Laurel Springs) and
Paul Lenz (Ratingen, Germany) were respectable at No. 3, falling, 6-3.
Salar Carrera and Melendez both fell in three-set singles matches. Salar Carrera fell to Alester Magalit, 3-6, 6-4, 10-8, at No. 1 singles, while Melendez also took the first set against Patrick Cachapero, 6-1, before falling in the final two sets, 6-3, 6-3. Quinnipiac won the remaining matches in straight sets.
The Broncs return to action Monday, when they play host to Hofstra. First serve is slated for 2 p.m.
