LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Pablo Salar Carrera (Barcelona, Spain/IES Jaume Balmes) won at both singles and doubles, but the Rider University men's tennis was edged by Hofstra, 4-3, Monday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 0-5, while the Pride is now 1-0.
Salar Carrera paired with Jaime De Jaraiz Garcia to defeat Jonathan Mahrt Guyou and Yusuke Nishitani, 6-2, at No. 2 doubles. The Broncs clinched the doubles point with
Paul Lenz (Ratingen, Germany) and
Marcus Fredrickson's 6-2 win over Patrick Wall and Julien Wolfe at No. 3.
Salar Carrera went on to defeat Shawn Jackson, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 1 singles.
Javier Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio Nuestra Senora de la Merced) got the Broncs to within a singles win of clinching the match with his 6-2, 6-4, win over Mahrt Guyou at No. 3. However, the Pride took the remaining four singles flights and the match. Lenz pushed his match to a third set at No. 4, but fell to Pezzoli Giacomo, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-2.
Benjamin Tauber (Bethlehem, PA/Nazareth Area) was also competitive at No. 6, but fell to Guido Feldberg, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7).
The Broncs return to action Wednesday, when they play host to Mount St. Mary's at 3 p.m.
