LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Saint Joseph's Thursday in a deceptively-close match when judging only by the final team score. Rider (0-3) took the Hawks (5-1) to a third set in two different singles matches.
The Hawks took the doubles point with wins in all three flights.
Nicholas Salazar (Palmetto Bay, FL/Westminster Christian School) and
Marcus Fredrickson came closest to a win at No. 3, falling, 6-4.
In singles,
Paul Lenz (Ratingen, Germany) and
Benjamin Tauber (Bethlehem, PA/Nazareth Area) both fell in three sets at Nos. 3 and 6, respectively. Lenz and Tauber each fell by 10-8 margins in the third-set tie-breakers.
Javier Melendez (Cayey, Puerto Rico/Colegio Nuestra Senora de la Merced) also pushed his match to a second-set tie-breaker before falling at No. 4.
The Broncs return to action Saturday, when they travel to Quinnipiac. First serve is slated for 2 p.m. in Hamden, CT.
