NEW ROCHELLE, NY – Freshman midfielder
Hannah Freeman (Lowville, NY/Lowville) scored her first collegiate goal as the Rider University women's soccer team played Iona to a 1-1 tie on the road Tuesday afternoon. With the tie, the Broncs stay unbeaten at 1-0-2, while the Gaels are now 0-1-1.
Just 20 seconds into the contest,
Makenzie Rodrigues (Seattle, WA/Forest Ridge) sent a shot from close range that was saved. Freeman was in position at the right post to elevate a shot past the Gaels' defense for the tally.
The Broncs led until the 65
th minute, when the Gaels were awarded a free kick from 25 yards out, directly in front of the net. Nicole Whitley lined a shot over the Broncs' wall and underneath the crossbar for the equalizer.
Neither team could find the back of the net the rest of the way and the game ended in a draw.
