Saint Peter's Uses 2nd Half Surge to Get Past Men's Basketball

Murray leads Rider with 13 points, 6 assists

JERSEY CITY, NJ Dwight Murray, Jr. (Austell, GA/Pebblebrook [Incarnate Word]) led the Broncs with 13 points and six assists, but Saint Peter's used a 20-3 second-half run to surge past the Rider University men's basketball team, 66-52, Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 4-14 (4-11 MAAC), while the Peacocks are now 12-8 (9-6 MAAC).

A back-and-forth game in the first 20 minutes, Rider used nine first-half points from Murray, including a bucket inside as time expired to take a one-point lead into the locker room at halftime.

A 7-0 run early in the second half gave Saint Peter's the lead. Rider fought back with five straight to retake the lead and continued to lead, 39-36, with less than 13 minutes to play. But Saint Peter's would score 20 of the next 23 points to put the game out of reach.

Notes
- Rider leads the all-time series with Saint Peter's, 38-32. The Peacocks have won the last two meetings, both in Jersey City.  
- Second-leading scorer Dontrell McQuarter (Baton Rouge, LA/Believe Prep [Hinds C.C.]) made his return after missing the last four games for personal reasons.

Broncs by the Numbers
- Murray led the Broncs with 13 points, making 4-of-10 attempts from the floor, including 2-of-5 from long range, and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line. He also had a team-high six assists.
- McQuarter and Christian Ings (Philadelphia, PA/Neumann-Goretti) had nine points apiece. Ings also added a team-high five rebounds.  
- For the game, the Peacocks outshot the Broncs, 39.7 percent (23-58) to 36.5 percent (19-52) from the floor.
- The Broncs took a 26.3 percent (5-19) to 10.0 percent (1-10) edge from long range and outshot the Peacocks, 81.8 percent (9-11) to 70.4 percent (19-27) from the free-throw line.
- Saint Peter's outrebounded Rider, 42-34.
