Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Manhattan Defeats Men's Soccer in Regular Season Finale

Broncs await tonight's remaining MAAC results to determine championship seeding

RIVERDALE, NY – The Rider University men's soccer team fell at Manhattan, 2-0, Wednesday afternoon in the regular-season finale. With the loss, the Broncs stand at 8-7-2 (5-4-1 MAAC) and await results of the Canisius at Niagara and Marist at Fairfield games tonight at 7 p.m. to determine whether they'll hold onto the No. 4 seed and the final host position in the MAAC Championship Quarterfinals or take to the road as the No. 5 or 6 seed. Manhattan (6-8-2, 4-5-1 MAAC) clinched the eighth, and final, MAAC Championship berth with the win and a Quinnipiac loss to Saint Peter's.

Following a scoreless first half, Brandon Joseph-Buadi broke the deadlock in the 56th minute, streaking down the left side before scoring past Rider goalkeeper Pablo Gatinois (Madrid, Spain/Lycee Francais de Madrid [Oregon State]) into the lower, left side of the goal. Almost nine minutes later, the Jaspers struck again, this time on a Johan Velez half volley into the right upper 90.

In spite of a 14-13 edge in shots, including a 5-4 advantage in shots on goal, the Broncs couldn't find the back of the net and the Jaspers came away with the victory.

Notes
- Rider is currently tied with Fairfield with 16 points and a point ahead of Niagara (15 points) in the MAAC Standings. Fairfield hosts league-leading Marist, while Niagara hosts last-place Canisius tonight at 7 p.m. If one of the teams finishes ahead of Rider in the standings, the Broncs would move to the fifth or sixth seed and face a quarterfinal-round road game. If both teams lose, Rider would take the fourth seed by virtue of a head-to-head victory over Fairfield. In the event of a three-way tie with Fairfield and Niagara, goal differential in MAAC play is the tie-breaker. Currently, Rider has a +1 goal differential, while Fairfield is at +3 and Niagara is at +2.
- Manhattan cut Rider's lead in the all-time series to 14-6-5. The Jaspers have now won two of the last three meetings after the Broncs were an unbeaten 4-0-1 in the prior five matches.
- Gatinois made two saves in defeat.
- Manhattan was shown four yellow cards in the game to Rider's one.
- Gatinois, Lenny Cidolit (Montpellier, France/Montpellier Univ.), Regis Dulck (Ostwald, France/Lycee Jean Monnet Strasbourg), Taner Bay (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Adel Al-Masude (Brussels, Belgium) each played all 90 minutes.

Broncs By The Numbers
- Rider outshot Manhattan, 14-13, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal.
- Rider took five corner kicks to Manhattan's two.
- Zaki Alibou (Meknes, Morocco) led Rider with four shots, putting two on target, while Cidolit and Al-Masude each took three shots and put one on goal.
