Box Score EASTON, PA – Leila Koster (Duluth, GA/Rivers Academy),
Ally Garofoli (Springboro, OH/Springboro) and
Angelica Garcia (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina) each won singles victories, but a shorthanded Rider University women's tennis team fell at Lafayette, 4-3, Saturday. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 0-1.
"A lot of positives from today," said Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "We really competed well. We maintain composure under pressure, which helped us construct points. Just need to work on the little things for the next two weeks before our next match. I'm happy with the direction of our team and we are excited to get back to work."
Capucine Thuilot and Garofoli won their No. 2 doubles match over Eleanor Campbell and Cecilia Lesnick, 7-6 (7-5). But the Leopards took No. 1 and, playing with just five players, the Broncs defaulted at No. 3, giving the point to Lafayette.
Down 2-0 with another default at No. 6 singles, Koster, Garofoli and Garcia gave the Broncs a chance with straight sets singles wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 4, respectively. But the Leopards won at Nos. 1 and 5 to earn the victory.
The Broncs return to action Oct. 23, when they close out the Fall season with a home match against Wagner. First serve is slated for noon.
