NEW ROCHELLE, NY –The Rider University women's soccer team fell at Iona on Mazzella Field Wednesday afternoon, 2-0. With the loss, the Broncs slip to 5-9-2 (3-6-1 MAAC), while the Gaels improve to 11-7 (6-4 MAAC). By virtue of the head-to-head tiebreaker with Manhattan, the Broncs take the eighth and final MAAC Championship berth and will face top-seeded Monmouth on Sunday in West Long Branch.
Iona would take the lead quickly, with Andrea Ferrer striking for the goal after passes from Mackenzie Meixner and Kedarjah Lewis in the 10
th minute. The Gaels would hold off the Rider offense, limiting the Broncs to one shot in the first half to maintain the lead, 1-0.
In the second half, Iona and Rider would trade blows, each team taking shots. But Iona would seal their victory late in the game, with Madison Lena scoring unassisted in the 90
th minute to push the Iona lead to 2-0 and seal the Gael victory.
