WEST LONG BRANCH, NJ –
Cameron Santers (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) scored a goal, but the Rider University women's soccer team fell at top-seeded Monmouth, 3-1, in the MAAC Championship Quarterfinals on Hesse Field on the Great Lawn Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs end their season at 5-10-2, while the Hawks advance to the semifinals and improve their record to 13-4-1.
In their second meeting this season, Monmouth and Rider were locked in a stalemate until Jesi Rossman connected to Alexis Marino who was able to split the Broncs defense to score the first goal of the game in the 39
th minute. Rider would continue to push back though for the rest of the half, but Monmouth would retain their lead at the end of the first 45 minutes, 1-0.
In the second half, Monmouth would continue to apply pressure, resulting in Lauren Karabin scoring the second goal for the Hawks in the 53
rd minute after connecting passes from A'Liah Moore and Sarina Jones. The Hawks didn't stop there, continuing to widen the gap as Jazlyn Oviedo passed up to Lauren Karabin, who would add her second goal of the game in the 62
nd minute and push the Monmouth lead to 3-0. Finding an answer, Santers would score after a pass from
Lindsey Maslow (Hanover, MA/ Hanover) in the 78
th minute to cut the Monmouth lead back but the Hawks would hold off the Rider momentum to claim the victory and advance to the semifinals.
