Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men's Tennis Edges Wagner, 4-3

Salar Carrera, Ganeshan and de Jaraiz Garcia win twice each

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJPablo Salar Carrera (Barcelona, Spain/IES Jaume Balmes), Vishal Ganeshan (Millers Point, New South Wales, Austraila/Knox Grammar School) and Jaime de Jaraiz Garcia each won at both singles and doubles as the Rider University men's tennis team edged Wagner, 4-3, Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs even their dual record at 1-1, while the Seahawks are now 1-3.

The Broncs took the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2, while leading at No. 3 when the match was halted. Salar Carrera and de Jaraiz Garcia defeated Karan Venkatramana and Lucas Darling, 6-3, at the top flight, while Ganeshan and Nicholas Salazar (Palmetto Bay, FL/Westminster Christian School) took a 6-2 win at No. 2 over Tejasvi Mehra and Jordan Hunte.

"As a team, we played very well in doubles. Winning the point there was huge. It set the tone for the match," said Rider Head Coach Tom Battaglia. "We have been working very hard all week on taking our doubles to the next level and it showed today. We never let them get comfortable. Serves were on today, which was another focus point. Very exciting to get the win. It was thrilling to say the least."

In singles, Salar Carrera got the best of Venkatramana, 6-1, 7-5, at No. 1, while Ganeshan defeated Abhinav Magow, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, at No. 2. However, the Seahawks would take wins at Nos. 3, 4 and 6 to knot the match at 3-3, before de Jaraiz Garcia defeated Darling, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 5 to give the Broncs the match victory.

"You can't script it up any better," said Battaglia. "Today was Jaime's birthday and it came down to his match all tied at 3-3. He clinched it with very steady play and made his opponent beat him. There was no getting a ball by Jaime today. He was a wall. Very confident as well. It's a birthday he won't ever forget."

The match was the Broncs' final competition of the Fall. Rider returns to action Feb. 18, when it takes part in the Ranger Invitational, hosted by Drew University.
