Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Late Stroke Dooms Field Hockey at Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Rider University field hockey team fought back from down a goal in the second half at Wagner on Friday, but ultimately fell 2-1 to the Seahawks. The Broncs are now 9-6 overall and 2-3 in NEC play, while the Seahawks improve to 6-9 on the season, including 3-2 in conference play.

The Seahawks kicked off the scoring late in the first quarter, taking advantage of a corner opportunity with less than a minute remaining in the opening frame.

In the third, it was the Broncs taking advantage of a penalty corner to tie the game. Kiki van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Montessori Lyceum Amsterdam) made the insert to Julia Divorra (Terrasa, Spain/Vedruna Vall) who made a quick pass to Tess van Ommeren (Amsterdam, Netherlands/Sint Nicolaas Lyceum). Tess van Ommeren made the pass back to Divorra who blasted a shot from the top of the circle to tie the game.

With just under three minutes remaining, Wagner was awarded a penalty stroke. Julia Pastorino converted for the Seahawks to give Wagner the victory.

The Broncs would get a final chance with four-straight corners with roughly 90 seconds remaining, including a pair of shots by Divorra that got by the Wagner goalie, but a pair of defensive saves by Liselotte Koop shut the door on the Broncs.
