Baseball Falls, 2-1, at Delaware in a Pitcher's Duel

Pete Soporowski tossed eight innings and surrendered just one earned run

NEWARK, DE – The Rider University baseball team fell on the road to host Delaware, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Bob Hannah Stadium.

The Broncs (6-5) suffered their second straight setback, while the Blue Hens (5-7) ended a two-game skid with the victory.

Senior southpaw Pete Soporowski (Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) was the tough-luck loser for the guests. He tossed eight innings and surrendered two runs (only one of which was earned), while scattering nine hits and striking out three.

The Blue Hens opened the scoring in the home half of the fourth. Delaware got an RBI single with two outs and following a Bronc passed ball another run cam in on an infield single.

Rider answered with a run in the top of the fifth courtesy of a two-out RBI infield single from freshman Scott Shaw (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill HS West) that plated Joe Simone (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills).

Neither team was able to break through the rest of the way as the Blue Hens held on for the win.
