Georgia Tech Defeats Softball, 5-1

Marigliano goes 2-for-4 with an RBI single

ATLANTA, GA Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, NY/Plainledge) went 2-for-4 with an RBI single, but the Rider University softball team fell at Georgia Tech, 5-1, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 0-9, while the Yellow Jackets are now 9-10.
 
The Yellow Jackets took a 1-0 lead with a two-out rally in the second. After the Broncs got the first two outs, Georgia Tech got a walk, a single and a Bailee Zeitler RBI single to take the lead. Georgia Tech used two hits, a walk and an error in the third to add two more, pushing its lead to 3-0.

The Broncs got a run back in the top of the fifth with some two-out magic of their own, as Melanie Wilkinson (Richboro, PA/Council Rock South) doubled and scored on Marigliano's RBI single to cut the deficit to 3-1. But the Yellow Jackets would immediately get the run back on a solo home run in the bottom of the inning and got one more in the sixth to push to the final 5-1 margin.

- Debra Jones (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) started in the circle and went 5.0 innings, allowing four earned runs on five hits and two walks.
- Elyse Cuttic (Easton, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) pitched the sixth inning, allowing one earned run on two hits and a walk, while striking out one.
- The Broncs return to action Friday, when they take part in the Buff & Blue Challenge, hosted by George Washington. Rider will face hOURglass Rival Monmouth at 10 a.m., before facing Winthrop and George Washington on Saturday and a second meeting with the Eagles scheduled for Sunday.

- Marigliano led the Rider offense with two hits and an RBI.
- Wilkinson, Lani Moreno (Claremont, CA/Claremont), Chaela Crowder (Simi Valley, CA/Simi Valley) and Cuttic added one hit each, with Cuttic and Wilkinson's hits being doubles.
- Elena Gonzalez (Ashburn, VA/Stone Bridge) also reached on a walk.
