Wrestling Falls to Rutgers, 25-6

Match contested in front of sellout crowd at Alumni Gym

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Three matches went into overtime, but the Rider University wrestling team fell to Garden State rival Rutgers University, Sunday night inside Alumni Gymnasium, 25-6. The loss snaps Rider's seven-match winning streak, dropping the Broncs to 10-3. The Scarlet Knights improve to 9-6.   

Rutgers opened the night claiming wins at 125, 133, 141 and 149 to take a 13-0 lead. Rider would earn its first points of the match at 157. #4 Jesse Dellavecchia (Great River, NY/East Islip [Binghamton]) claimed a 3-1 decision over Mike Vanschenkbrill.

Following the intermission, the Scarlet Knights would win four of the final five bouts. At 174, Dean Sherry (Brick, NJ/Brick Township) would win by decision over Willie Scott, 4-3, but Rutgers wrapped up the 25-6 victory.

- While Rider holds a 12-8 edge in the all-time series, Rutgers has now won seven-straight duals over the Broncs.
- The match was contested in front of a sellout crowd of 1,650.
- Rider honored Lou DiSerafino and Shawn Scannell during tonight's match. Lou DiSerafino claimed the first All-America honor for the Broncs and was inducted into the Rider Athletics Hall of Fame in 1990. Shawn Scannell earned All-America honors in 2000, as well as a Rider Athletics Hall of Fame induction in 2009.  
- Rider returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 16, when it plays host to MAC foe Clarion for the final home dual of the year in Alumni Gym, set to begin at 11 a.m.
