Women's Basketball Beats Fairfield to Move Back Into First Place in the MAAC Standings

Tracey Goodman had eight points off the bench in a 68-60 victory

FAIRFIELD, CT – Three players scored in double figures as the Rider University women's basketball team defeated host Fairfield, 68-60, on Thursday evening in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action at Alumni Hall.  
 
The Broncs (22-4, 15-2 MAAC) moved back into a tie for first place in league standings with their fifth straight victory, while the Stags (13-13, 10-7 MAAC) have now lost four of their last five contests.
 
Rider got off to a quick start, jumping out to a 22-7 advantage after the first quarter. Fairfield responded in the second quarter as Rider took one-point lead into the break at 33-32.
 
The Broncs took a one-point lead at 47-46 into the fourth quarter thanks to Tracey Goodman (Lansdale, PA/Phil-Mont Christian Academy) beating the third-quarter buzzer with a three from the wing.
 
In the fourth quarter, Rider held Fairfield to 26 percent shooting to escape with the win.
 
Stella Johnson (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) paced the Rider attack with 20 points, Amanda Mobley (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) added 18 points and Lea Favre (Vevey, Switzerland/Lycee Jeanne D'Arc) chipped in 13 points.

- Rider completed the regular-season sweep of the Stags with the win. The Broncs have won five game in a row versus Fairfield.
- The Broncs are now 19-0 this year when three or more players score in double figures.
- Rider shot 50 percent (6-of-12) from three-point range.
- The Broncs are 17-1 this season when holding opponents to 66 points or fewer.
 
BRONCS BY THE NUMBERS
- Senior Tracey Goodman scored eight points off the bench for the Broncs. Goodman was 3-of-4 from the field, including 2-of-2 from three-point range. She also added three rebounds.
- Rider is 11-1 this year when Mobley scores in double figures. She went 11-of-13 at the free-throw line. Both marks were career-bests.
- Stella added eight rebounds and four assists for the Broncs. In her career she now has 2,061 points. It was her 20th game with 20 or more points this year.
- Favre was 6-of-11 shooting. She also had five rebounds, one block and one assist.
- Amari Johnson added seven points and seven rebounds for Rider.
 
UP NEXT
Rider returns home on Saturday, February 29, for a conference clash against Canisius that is slated to begin at 4:00 pm.
