What You Need To Know
- Rider opens MAAC play at Manhattan on Friday and Saturday. The Broncs fell at Syracuse and in a nailbiter at St. John's last Saturday and this past Tuesday.
- Dwight Murray, Jr. has been an all-around bright spot so far this season with at least 19 points, six rebounds and six assists in both games against Syracuse and St. John's. He's averaging 19.5 ppg., 6.5 apg. and 6.0 rpg.
- Rodney Henderson, Jr. had 20 points, five rebounds and two steals in the near upset at St. John's. Allen Powell also added a career-high 17 points.
- Rider owns a 32-24 lead in the all-time series with Manhattan, including wins in each of last year's two meetings. The Broncs are 11-6 against the Jaspers under Head Coach Kevin Baggett.
- Manhattan has yet to play a game this season because of a positive COVID-19 test announced on Nov. 23. The Jaspers were picked fifth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches Poll and junior forward Warren Williams was selected to the Preseason All-MAAC Second Team after averaging 8.3 ppg. and shooting 57.3 percent from the floor last year. Hit hard by transfers of Pauly Paulicap (DePaul), Tykei Greene (Stony Brook) and Christian Hinckson (Binghamton), the Jaspers return guards Samir Stewart (8.4 ppg.), Elijah Buchanan (7.4 ppg.) and Nehemiah Mack (3.8 ppg.), while going to the transfer well themselves with Anthony Nelson (Seton Hall) and Jason Douglas-Stanley (George Mason).
- Rider returned just four letterwinners from last year's team that finished 18-12 and was the No. 3 seed in the MAAC Tournament before it was cancelled.
- The Broncs are tasked with replacing 87.6% of its scoring from a year ago, second most in the nation behind only Kentucky (94.0%).
- Ninth-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 141-118 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) have more wins at Rider than Baggett.
- 107.7 The Bronc will broadcast the game live, with Tom Trimarco and Demara Barnes on the call. The station will broadcast only Saturday's game with no broadcast scheduled for Friday.
