What You Need To Know
- Rider plays host to NJIT on Wednesday afternoon in its first home non-conference game of the season. The Broncs will also host Coppin State on Dec. 29.
- Dwight Murray, Jr. has been an all-around bright spot so far this season, averaging 15.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.2 steals per game, including a near triple-double of 20 points, a career-high 15 rebounds and seven assists in a win at Manhattan on Dec. 11.
- Dontrell McQuarter erupted for 20 points and eight rebounds on Dec. 19 against Iona. He made 7-of-13 field-goal attempts.
- Ajiri Ogemuno-Johnson also had a career night on Dec. 18 against Iona, going for 16 points and eight rebounds.
- Rider owns a 4-3 lead in the all-time series against NJIT. However, the first four meetings, split between the two teams, came in 1953-54 and 1954-55, when the school was known as Newark College of Engineering. The two teams met three times between 2006-07 and 2008-09, with the Broncs winning the last two.
- The Highlanders have played just once this season, a 72-60 loss at Temple on Saturday. Zach Cooks led the Atlantic Sun Conference in scoring (19.7 ppg.), steals (1.8 spg.) and minutes (37.6 mpg) last year. He had 18 points in the opener at Temple, while Dylan O'Hearn had 11.
- Rodney Henderson, Jr. had 20 points, five rebounds and two steals in the near upset at St. John's. Allen Powell also added a career-high 17 points.
- Rider returned just four letterwinners from last year's team that finished 18-12 and was the No. 3 seed in the MAAC Tournament before it was cancelled.
- The Broncs are tasked with replacing 87.6% of its scoring from a year ago, second most in the nation behind only Kentucky (94.0%).
- Ninth-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 142-121 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) have more wins at Rider than Baggett.
